Septic Pricing in Hancock County, Indiana

The numbers below are what most homeowners pay for the common jobs in 2026, gathered from quotes we and other central-Indiana operators write every week. Final price depends on three things: how easy the access is (buried risers take time to expose), what the soil and water table look like at the property, and whether the work needs a Hancock County permit. We write a fixed price in writing before any work starts.

Typical price ranges

Routine septic pumping runs $300 to $600. A standard 1,000-gallon tank with accessible risers is closer to the low end; a 1,500-gallon tank, or one where we have to dig down to the lid before we can pump, is closer to the high end.

A real estate septic inspection — pump, full visual inspection, written report with photos for a buyer or lender — runs $250 to $450. A basic baffle inspection without a written report is typically bundled with a pumping for $50 to $75 over the pump price.

Riser and lid replacement is $300 to $800 installed, depending on tank depth, the size of the original opening, and whether we're swapping concrete for plastic. See our services page for what's included.

Drain field repair work — a clogged distribution box, a broken header line, a single failed lateral — typically lands between $1,500 and $5,000. The wide range is real: a D-box swap is a half-day job, while a single lateral replacement involves locating the field, exposing the line, and properly bedding the repair.

Full septic tank replacement is $5,000 to $10,000 for most residential setups. A full drain field rebuild — soil evaluation, sizing, permitting, and installation — is the big one at $8,000 to $20,000.

Final price always depends on access, soil conditions at the property, and Hancock County permitting fees. We won't quote a final number sight-unseen on the big jobs, but the ranges above are honest — if a quote you've received is materially higher or lower, ask what's driving the difference.

What to expect on the visit

Arrival. We give a two-hour window the day before, and the driver calls when he's twenty minutes out. Truck and crew are uniformed; nothing parked on the lawn unless it's the only option.

Locate access. Risers are visible, buried, or somewhere in between. If we need to probe to find a lid, we do it carefully — most homeowners don't want a freshly trenched yard.

Uncover risers. If the lid is below grade, we hand-dig down so the gasket reseals cleanly when we close it.

Pump. The vacuum truck draws solids and liquid down to the tank floor. A 1,000-gallon tank takes 25–35 minutes; a 1,500-gallon, 35–45.

Inspect baffles and tank walls. With the tank empty we check baffles, walls, and the inlet/outlet pipes for cracks, settling, or root intrusion.

Written report. Date, gallons pumped, condition of the components, anything we'd recommend looking at next. Stamped lid and emailed PDF.
